TEACHING:

Winning at Business Writing:
An Introduction to the Politics and Style of Effective Communications

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Business writing has two goals. First, it must clearly and concisely convey information using a style that your reader understands. Second, when appropriate, it must convince someone to do something such as carrying out a set of tasks correctly, paying an overdue account or agreeing to give you an interview. This course will help you to achieve these goals by teaching you how to design a message your target audience can easily understand and act upon.

Some of the topics you'll learn about include:
communication theory
audience analysis
routine requests
favorable replies
persuasive requests
negative messages

You will learn the proper format and style for formal letters, memos, e-mails and simple reports. You also learn about the common misunderstandings about the formality and legality of e-mail.

You will do practical assignments that reflect the real-life workplace and the instructor will share his collection of actual examples of business writing gone bad, very bad.

The course is comprised of 10 lessons with numerous assignments to enable students to gain practical experience and to have their work critiqued in a constructive manner.
Cost is $245
