TEACHING:Winning at Business Writing: An Introduction to the Politics and Style of Effective Communications COURSE DESCRIPTION Business writing has two goals. First, it must clearly and concisely convey information using a style that your reader understands. Second, when appropriate, it must convince someone to do something such as carrying out a set of tasks correctly, paying an overdue account or agreeing to give you an interview. This course will help you to achieve these goals by teaching you how to design a message your target audience can easily understand and act upon. Some of the topics you'll learn about include: communication theory audience analysis routine requests favorable replies persuasive requests negative messages You will learn the proper format and style for formal letters, memos, e-mails and simple reports. You also learn about the common misunderstandings about the formality and legality of e-mail.
